All About Cats & Kittens

Cats are the most common types of household pets that you will find across the globe and have their associations with your humans tracing back to ancient cultures in Cyprus and Africa - more specifically Egypt. Domestic cats are ideal as house pets for several reasons. They are small animals, weighing on average between 2 and 7kg and do not occupy a large quantity of space in the household. They are very independent animals and do not require as much attention as other household pets such as dogs. This is ideal for homeowners who work during the day or are not at home very often.

Cats can be smart creatures. They are not high maintenance as they clean and wash themselves regularly and thus maintain excellent hygiene. Most cats prefer to use the toilet outside and cover up the mess by scratching some sand or grass over it. However for cats living in small apartments cat litter boxes can be used.

People have cats for several reasons. The main reason is that they are ideal pets since they provide companionship but are not very high maintenance. Cats can also be very gentle which makes them ideal as pets for children. Another benefit to own a cat is that they are good predators such as, when it comes to catch mice or rats. This is particularly useful for households out in the countryside or on a farm.

People have the perception the cats cannot be trained, but this is untrue. In fact, cats can quite easily be trained to recognize their own name, come when the owner calls and perform certain tasks such as turning door handles. Some cats can even be trained to walk on a special cat lead - however this is not often favored by many cats.

You can purchase a kitten from your local pet store or alternately get a cat from your local animal sanctuary. Consult your vet when you have gotten your cat or kitten to find out how to feed your cat nutritionally and what vaccinations it might need in the future.
